June is the month to celebrate LGBTQ+ pride.
It is the celebration of dignity, equality, and increased visibility of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender, queer and all the wonderful folk in between. It is also a time to commemorate the stonewall riots which occurred in June 1969. June is now a time to reflect and recognise the impact LGBTQ people have had in the world.
The first LGBTQ march was co-ordinated by bisexual activist Brenda Howard who is often referred to as the "Mother of Pride". Howard, and fellow bisexual activist Robert A. Martin and gay activist L. Craig Schoonmaker are often credited with popularizing the word "Pride".
A famous quote by another bisexual activist, Tom Limoncelli is
"The next time someone asks you why LGBT Pride marches exist or why Pride Month is June tell them 'A bisexual woman named Brenda Howard thought it should be.'"
